While there have been multitudes of new members in the last few weeks, there has not been a lot of work on the features of the site. Still, there are some things we want to share with our members, including upcoming work.

First, we know of a problem with the keyword searching of events. This issue will be fixed in the next week—as it stands, keyword searching of events does not work! Visitors can still find events by choosing countries, states, cities and dates, but if they add keywords, no results will appear.

When the issue is fixed, we will also add a facility to find events based on topic category (Oil Painting, Science-Fiction, Photography, etc).

In other news, we added some new topics for articles. Learn more about some of the new topics. (Note. Feel free to let us know if there is a new topic you wish to see that would accommodate your kind of art.)

We have had several emails from members in the last couple of weeks wondering how they can get their artwork displayed in the topic menus—such as under “Sculpture” or “Wildlife Art”. The way to get your work in any area of the site is to submit articles. This means you must login with your username and password and then click “Submit Article” in the right pane of every page. Your member profile does not appear in the topic groups—only your articles. Your profile appears in the directory pages.

Many members have not yet realized the difference between profiles and articles. Each member has a single profile that tells about them—such as where they are from, what they do, and possibly a few examples of their work or a portrait of themselves. Profiles were created when you first joined the site. Articles, however, are associated to member profiles—so that each member can have unlimited articles but only one profile. All articles link back to the member profile—and all profiles have links to your topics that have articles.

This means that if you submit a poem to the site (by adding an article with the “Poetry” topic selected), your profile will then include a link to all of your poetry articles. Your poem will also appear in the “Poetry” link under “Writing” in the navigation bar, and can be found by anyone using the “articles” search in the navigation bar.

Finally, we have a few members that have not been able to verify their email address. This issue usually results because the member entered an invalid email into their account details. Check to see of a valid email is in your account details if this issue is afflicting you. If the email is valid, it may also be possible that your email client does not display HTML emails. If that is the case, you can send an email to arts@artisticnetwork.net from your email program; include the words “Verify Email” in the subject line and a link to your profile on our site. Very soon our email verification will include a text link for incompatible email clients.
