Clock Ticks

... on the wall

Not here, an empty barstool
Glass slowly emptied before being replaced

Clock ticks on the wall
Swear words from the stood up, the disgraced

Others come in, laughing couples, eyes shining
Glass rattled, a nod, a new pint poured
Clock ticks on the wall
Anger rises, she once loved, now deplored.

Music plays, others dancing, seen through misty eyes
That shed no tears, for men do not cry
Clock ticks on the wall
Silent voice shouts out, screaming "Why?”

Last orders, the phone screen flickers
electric charge fades sending the last text
Clock ticks on the wall
Home alone on the agenda is next.
